Photos by Carson Zullinger Sunday evening at the USA Dance Nationals gave me a whiff of deja vu.  Having won this event for the last time in 2008, I was delighted to watch some new pairings and fresh faces compete in this exciting final. It’s an exceptionally demanding strength to be able to maintain a competitive Ten Dance program and I admire all of the couples that invest countless hours into perfecting their craft.

Photos by Dore Studios On April 4th we found ourselves in beautiful, tropical Boca Raton, FL where Herb Vazquez has launched his long overdue Dance Sport Diva Challenge. The event would not be possible without the original Diva, Estelle Finkel, who inspired the event's creation. Her recent battle with pneumonia made it difficult for her to attend, but she was most certainly present in everyone's minds and hearts.  (Editor:  We regret to report that Estelle has passed away since the writing on this article.)

Action photos by Laura Johnson Photography I know it’s March when my students start stressing about the width of their dress straps.  The United States National Amateur Dancesport Championships are hosted annually at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.  It is nestled in a valley of snowcapped mountains on an immaculate campus brimming with clean-cut kids and the wholesome activity of ballroom dancing.

By Susan Silva “AFFECTING ETERNITY” ETERNITY- A word that many of us do not really think about, especially in our busy ballroom dance schedules.  Yet Eternity exists, whether we understand it or not, and we can affect it with decisions we make in our own lives.  Many famous people, like inventors, doctors, scientists, builders, educators, ministers, astronauts, and dancers have affected eternity and life on planet earth.  So what is Eternity?  Looking into the famous Webster’s dictionary some definitions are: “state of being eternal; Eternal=infinite in duration, having no beginning or end, timeless”.

Action photos by Laura Johnson Photography What an amazing competition! From the opening ceremony all the way to the end of the event the atmosphere in the ballroom was just electric. These young dancers were simply spectacular. It was truly a pleasure to watch them and to judge them.
