Unprecedented Finish To The World 10!

It was an unprecedented finish to the WDC World Professional 10 Dance Championships at the Grand National’s on Key Biscayne, FL.

The 2015 WDC 10 Dance Professional Champions Nikolay Govorov & Eugeniya Tolstoya from Russia were defeated last night by Alexandru Shindils & Jade Main from England who took the lead and placed first overall with the scores of 1,2,2,1,1,1,3,1,1,3. Last year’s champions, Nikolay & Eugeniya, did not only lose their title, but placed third in the overall event, making it a perhaps very disappointing for these former champions, 2,1,1,2,3,4,6,5,5.

USA did quite well overall with a number of couples making it back to the finals in the majority of dances, but the best placements for a US couple went to Igor Colac & Roxane Milotti who placed second overall 3,3,4,4,2,2,1,2,4,1. Fourth place also went to England, Richard Still & Morgana Hemphill 5,5,6,7.5,4,6,6,3,2,2. Our Current US 10 Dance Champions and representatives, Sergey Samchynskyy & Yuliya Besarab, were fifth overall 4,8,5,9,9.5,4,5,4,3,4, it was an uphill battle for this couple who were not called back to the final in two dances, the foxtrot, and quickstep.

Sixth place was awarded to Jonas Kazlauskas & Kathleen Ilo who also represented the USA in this competition perhaps their first world championship representing USA, 8.5.4.3.3.5.7.7.7.6.6. According to Kathleen, just a week or so ago they won over the new champions Alexandru & Jade in England, and so it most have been quite shocking for this couple to have now been a number of places down below them. However, these “marks as you see it on the night” by the judges made this competition possibly one of the most exciting events of the year and one perhaps of the most talked about in times to come to come. And on a final note US second representative Simeon & Kora Stoynov placed seventh overall 6,9,7,5,8,3,2,8.5,7,7.5.

The Open Professional Ballroom also took place and we were quite surprised to see a number of the couples representing their countries in the World 10 also taking part in this individual event. Winning all dances were Alexander Voskalchuk & Veronica Egorova. Second went to Vlad Shakhov & Ekaterina Popova who were second in all dances, but for us these two couples were in a class of their own. From second down the quality was not nearly as good but placing third was Aleksandr Skriptsov & Aida Skriptsova with the following marks 5,5,4,3.5,3. We must mention that doing both the worlds and separate Ballroom event was not an easy task, here one of the Russian representatives danced and by the time they did this final you nearly had to scoop them with a spoon, that is how tired they looked so in the end the best they did was fourth place overall 4,4,4,3.5,4.

The Rhythm was a relatively easy win for Nazar Norov & Irina Kudryashova, they had the majority of 1st place marks in all dances. Placing second was were Andre & Natalie Parmanov. They were 2nd in all dances and picked up quite a number of 1st places including all 5 firsts from 2 judges – John Kimmins and Gary McDonald. 3rd in all dances were Shandor Shtefil & Aleksandra Barsukov.

Clifton Sepulveda & Mar Martinez won the Showdance and they took 6 of the 7 first places. The Paramonovs took 2nd.

World 10 – The Sequel!

We’re all back in the beautiful Ritz Carlton on Key Biscayne, FL for the 2016 Grand National Championships and guess what?

The WDC World 10-Dance Championship is back here too for the second consecutive year. Organizers Peter & Cassandra Schneider decided to once again host this prestigious world title right here in Florida and last night we witnessed the first two rounds over both styles. The original entry was 32 couples, the largest WDC World 10-Dance in several years. Tonight we will see the final 2 rounds and last year’s champions from Russia will attempt to retain their title, but we have plenty of US couples still in with a strong chance including last year’s runners-up and the current US 10-Dance Champions, Sergey Samchynsnky & Yulia Besarab.

Two professional championships were decided last night and those were the Smooth and Latin, both were straight finals.

In the Smooth Roman Malkhasyan & Kat Wagner were the comfortable winners, easily taking all 4 dances in our view. 2nd place went to Shandor Shtefil & Aleksandra Barsukov 2,2,2,3 and 3rd were Andre & Elena Rudenko 3,3,3,2. The Rudencos had a strong result at USDC and perhaps were hoping for better here tonight. 4th in all dances went to William Proper & Jennifer Elliott, 5th were Carlos Mateu & Ekaterina Kolmogorova 5,6,5,5; 6th Jake Lavender & Meghan Lavender 6,5,6,6 and 7th in all were Vadim Boldirev & Karla Boldriev. All couples except the Lavenders are from Florida.

Dmitry & Olena Nikishkin won all dances in the Latin. 2nd in all were Riccardo Pacini & Sonya Spadoni who interesting were listed from Florida. Manuel Trillo & Anna Belyavtseva placed 3rd 3T,3,3,3,3 and had a busy night as they also competed in the World 10-Dance. Nicolae Colac & Bella Gubheva were 4th 3T,4,4,4,,4 and Igor Tikhomovic & Kelsey Kizina were 5th.

Stay tuned to find out who will win the World 10-Dance tonight.
